Title: job at Coldstone
Post by: Zoko on May 23, 2010, 02:23:52 am
So, tomorrow I have an interview/audition at Coldstone Creamery, and part of the interview is that I have to sing a song (they sing for tips). I'm trying to think of a song to pick out that's simple, but has a good/catchy tune, and not too childish. Care to help me out?

Hah.

Some real suggestions would be nice, though.

If you want to be incredibly wacky, you might try a Lady Gaga song. =P

I've never heard a Lady Gaga song in my life and my friends tell me I should keep it that way. :/

What exactly do you do? Sing to cheer up visitors to the cemetery?

I agree with your friends.

It's an ice cream place, we sing whenever someone gives us a tip. But the pun is well appreciated.  :)

Why wouldn't you be?

And I am still without song...

Very.

I was thinking something more simple, like a catchy tune from a song that everyone knows. Or a beatles song.

Here are a bunch of classics in no particular order...

Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhUkGIsKvn0)

Johnny Rivers - Secret Agent Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iaR3WO71j4)

Ram Jam - Black Betty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMLnDuzgkjo)

Elton John - Saturday Night's Alright (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3vOPVGA6yQ)

Michael Jackson - Beat it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WObfcDIf6lY)

Kansas - Dust In The Wind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH2w6Oxx0kQ)

The Who - Pinball Wizard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRR-WlLVj74)

Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse Of The Heart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=840B27zYfOk)

Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc-P8oDuS0Q)

Monkees - Daydream Believer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQNqk54HPdE)

...man, I would not have the guts to sing in front of others. I keep that kind of bravery behind the wheel when I go to and from work... alone... when I think no one is looking.  ;)

But hey, if it'll help Zoko...

...

I would ask for a YouTube video, but I'm not that evil.

But hey, if it'll help Zoko...

You like me too much! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a3WiUQb8dg&feature=related)

But only the first two verses, and I changed the lyrics a bit. And thanks for the suggestions, echo!

Edit: Interview in 1/2 an hour! Wish me luck!

Just got back, it was a bit shorter than I expected.

Basically what happened was that they got all fifteen of us to stand in a semi-circle, and then call us up one at a time to sing our song. Mine went like this:

If I have to leave this morning
I'll be back again tonight
'Cause you say there'll be no next time
If I just don't get it right
But you'll hire me, and you know it's true
Cause you like me too much
And I like you!

I messed up the sixth line, I almost said "cause I like you too much", but then I caught myself. Basically, if they like me enough, they'll let me pass, otherwise I get to wait for another one of those places I applied to to give me a call.

What annoys me is that the best singers were teenage girls who sang pop songs by Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Ke$ha.  >:(

See, now they'll probably get the job over me, unless their interview fails. Hopefully they'll at least bother to call me (the employers, not the teenage girls, although it would be nice of them to)

If that's what they end up hiring, then you probably wouldn't want to work there. I know listening to coworkers singing Lady Gaga would drive me nuts. I'd assume that they'd want someone who appreciates some classic songs that all ages have heard and can appreciate. But I must admit, I wasn't familiar with the song you picked. Then again, up here in Canada, everything was Jerry Doucette and Trooper back in the day.  ;)

Ram Jam, Zoko. Ram Jam would have sealed the deal.  8)

Well, they have a big book of ice-cream flavored songs that they sing to customers when they get a tip, but I'm sure the teenage girls would find some way to put Lady Gaga in it.

How do you put an artist into another song? :/

Changing the original music completely? Maybe that would get them fired and they might call you. :D

I meant taking a Lady Gaga song and making the lyrics ice-cream related and singing it to customers. I don't think they would get fired over that?

And why is everyone assuming I won't get a call, a little optimism would be nice.  :P

Never said it'd be good, just said it'd be wacky. xP I don't hate the songs, personally, but they don't even approach being worthy of me adding any to my iPod.

Don't believe in the Zanith who believes in Lady-Succubus who believes in Xiagan who believes in you, believe in the you that believes in yourself! =D

I believe in your belief of me  ;D.

And even if I don't get word from them, there are other places I can (and have!) applied to.
