You know that cave in Naija's home with the rapid water coming out of the passage on the upper right? well, I used the pearl I found to unlock THAT room instead of the passage on the far right of the Home Waters. Is this expected, or an enormous goof I have to restart to fix?
-
There's a pearl in your home and in the home waters, I can't really remember if you can keep pearls on map switches (I think not) so I don't think you can lock yourself in.
-
That's good news! could I have a hint where the Home Waters one is, please?
-
Just keep following the walls.
Or: Just go under the entrance of where the pearl is needed.
-
Thanks a lot, I just got into the Open waters at long last. To think it was in that small pocket cave where I had never thought to go.
Loving the game, how'd the idea come to be?

I hate how that's true for every pearl except one. It confused me a bit yesterday. >_<

There's a pearl you can carry across a map switch? o.O I don't remember one...
-
There is. Would saying that it involved playing a song in an unusual way jog your memory? ^.^
-
Nope. But I did most of Aquaria in a marathon run, so bits get jumbled in my already-poor memory.

Whale.
BUT, the whale isn't a new map I believe, it's a warp node, not entirely sure about this though, and if it's not, curse you Alec! Only making one pearl be able to cross maps.
-
Ah, yeah, I'm pretty sure the whale isn't actually a new area. You're still on the same map. It's just like the houses in the ruins (or in the whale itself, for that matter).
-
Inside the maps folder, there's a whale.xml and an abyss01.xml. This suggests the existence of two maps.
If you leave the whale map with the orb, drop the orb in the abyss (or simply don't pick it up), watch it settle on the bottom, enter the whale again, and leave the whale again, the orb will again appear at the mouth of the whale, meaning that something had reset the position of the orb. If you were still on the same map, this probably wouldn't happen...
So therefore I believe that you are carrying the orb across the map change. Of course, it's not the same orb--the game just makes it look like that because the orb only appears at the mouth of the whale when some flag is set or something, I guess. ^///^
But of course, judging by your reputations, your next posts will probably prove me wrong. ._. Worth a try anyway, I guess.

No, no, that's actually a far more thorough analysis of the situation than I'd done. I guess it's unique.

Yay! Now alpha is going to prove us both wrong, watch. =^.^=

Nope, I completely agree, sounds very logical too. They're all flags, first flag is if you already unlocked the octopus puzzle, so the door stays open. Next is if you get out of the whale with the pearl with you, which makes the pearl be lodged on the whale's mouth if you ever lose it. Quite brilliant too.
-
But also note that entering/exiting a building also resets things.
-
Which is why there are flags that don't reset, they get saved.
-
What I'm saying is: if buildings are warp nodes but things still get reset, why can't the whale be a warp node also? (or the opposite: if a entering/exiting a building resets things, then it isn't a node, so most likely neither is the whale.)

Indeed, the whale can be a building warp, but it isn't. :3
-
How did that get there? I swear I posted that in the counting topic...
-
See, it's going too fast for you too!

Do things really still get reset? I don't recall having to re-kill all the frogs in Mithala after I got tired of them shooting bouncy blue balls at me that made weird gonking sounds.
-
You do actually.

Wow. Another thing to go check. >_>
I might as well replay the entire game. xD
