I am playing with an XBox 360 Gamepad, but I see this with the mouse, too. When I enter a new area, simply moving the thumbstick aims the character, but doesn't move. If I use thrust or shoot or hit other buttons, I can start moving, and can keep moving as long as I don't stop. But, if I stop, I get stuck in the spinning, non-moving mode again. Sometimes, after playing for a bit, I can get the issue to "go away," but not reliably.
Is this a known bug?

Experimenting a little, I think it might have be if I keep pressing on the thumbstick when a new screen is loaded. I will experiment further.

Same problem here!
Got the game yesterday, played with mouse only for a couple hours. When I tried to switch to keyboard+mouse, I got the same "stuck" problem. Whenever I press any directional button, Naija faces that direction, but doesn't start swimming until I press space. Once she stops, she's stuck again. Only seems to happen in some areas though.
update: Huh, looks like mouse movement has the same problem.

Which platform is this happening on?

64bit Win7,
version of the game is 1.1.1 (from the humble bundle ^^)
edit: Oh, and I really love the game so far - been playing for around 10 hours. I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that it was made by 2 guys. That is some brilliant design right there!

This is my exact setup, as well.

Hmm, maybe 64bit is the "culprit"...
Although, now that the game will be open-sourced, there's even more hope of a solution being found. 8)
