I'm not sure whether this has been talked about, but..though the general environment and level detail of Aquaria are of superb quality, why does Naija move like a puppet doll? Like some lifeless figure? Not being a coder/programmer i cant really say whether its possible or not to give her a very realistic movement..but would like to ask
Because the way she moves is at complete odds with the realistic enviroment around her..

That, I believe, has been discussed on this topic: http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=155.0

You know honestly, I just don't agree with you. I think her movement is very fluid.

I think we'll be more able to enjoy her fluidity in the real fluid environnement Naija lives in... once the game is out, in a few hours. :D

Its not horrible certainly, but its slightly eye catching, thats all i'm saying, in this very sophisticated environment you've created, the way her head rotates as a fixed object looks like a rag doll mechanisim..

Yeah, I guess I just don't agree with you - it doesn't bother me.

Well, you are slightly biased here.

Yeah, but usually the other way. I tend to be really picky and critical about stuff I make. In this case, it doesn't seem like something that affects the game much to me.
But to each their own. :)

I may not have depth of knowledge when it comes to 2D animation, but to me this looks like some of the best executed animation of this type. The sterotypical character frame by frame animation seen in other games just doesn't seem like it would've been suitable or even capable of properly representing the plethora of movements available to Naija.
Imagine Aquaria with only 8 directions of typically animated movement... *shudders*.

I'm just ribbin' ya.
I like it. I kept trying to control her while I was watching the trailers. ;P

Haha wow, I am in such a fragile state right now.
Hold ... me .. ?
Oh yeah, the game's out too. :)

You meant to say "360 degree frame by frame animation", didn't you? xD

It's all over now. All you have to do now is just sit back and bask in the praise.

Sorry Stalfos, I may not have been clear. I was refering to how 8 directions of full character frame animated movement wouldn't be as good as the 360 degrees of movement the Aquaria animation style allows. :)

I take back what i said ;) ..playing it properly, it is very fluid alec :)

Yeah, the videos don't do it justice. I love Naija's animations and movements so much. Very fluid.

I agree... her movements are great! I really enjoy the variety you get just moving around.. you can swim slowly, quickly, put on a quick burst of speed, cling to a wall to push off quickly, and sometimes spin when changing directions! But it's not completely formulaic.. I love that I can't consistently get Naija to do that little spin thing she does sometimes. Beautiful!!
The only minor criticism I have is the way she shoots the energy beams. The hand motion is just fine, but I don't like the way she just stares off into space when she's shooting. I don't know how much extra programming this would have taken, but I would have thought it amazing if her face followed the cursor or something. But, this is very minor, as the energy blasts and explosions (the really important part of the energy form!) look fantastic!
