Hi all. I love Aquaria but occasionally I can get pretty frustrated with it which is shame as it's such a gorgeous game to play and look at. Had there been less reliance on combat and more puzzle solving I might have loved it more. Are you too finding it just a little to hard? Boss fights giving you grief? Well here's how to cheat. Normally I'd be reluctant to post cheats in a forum but since my discovery I can't find any mention of it anywhere else on Google and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only player who's got mad a few times, especially some of the boss fights. So here you go, and if requested I'll edit this cheat out so people can PM for the cheat instead.
I discovered these cheats myself so if they appear elsewhere on the web you read them here first.
In the "data" folder open up the file variables.txt. Under the heading [entityDamageTime] change the number 0.1 to a big row of 9's (about 20 should do it).
Do the same under the heading [avatarDamageTime]. The first one is damage time from energy blasts etc and the second is damage time from baddies and dangerous fauna etc. The higher the number the longer it takes until you start to receive damage, so try to avoid prolonged damage otherwise you'll start to see it drop until you move away to safety and then it'll reset.
If that's too much cheating do this instead: Open the file ingredients.txt and add (++invincible) after any of the recipes. For example FishMeat fish-meat Meat is most in abundance in the game. Now whenever Naija eats fish meat (just fish meat) she'll get 10 seconds of invincibility. You can add (++invincible) to any of the recipes. In fact if you add any of the ones below to the recipes you can tailor the results Naija gets from eating them to your own preference. Add more + if you want longer results. I've not tested this (5 is probably the max), the game might crash if you put too many +'s in.
If you want to add multiple results to a recipe make sure you separate each with a space (e.g: (++invincible ++energy ++speed))
(++invincible)...gives temp invincibility
(+speed)............movement speed increased
(+defense).........temp defence
(+hp)................health point increase
(+regen)............slow health regeneration
(+light).............light source
(+bite)..............bite power increase
(+fishPoison).....fish form spits poison
(maxhp)...........gives max health
(++trip)...........?UNTESTED
(+li).................?UNTESTED
(+web).............web ability
(+energy).........energy form boost
(+petpower)......pet has increased power
+poison)...........poison ability
(-blind)............remove blindness (note the - instead of +)
(-allstatus).......?UNTESTED

You can also go to Aquaria\data\shots and change the data of how much damage the energy shots do like the file energyblast.txt
I'm just not sure which ones are Naija's and which ones are the enemies' attacks, so be careful with modding it.
Nice find and great guide. I knew it already, never bothered to make it public for laziness reasons.
-
My guess is that ++trip is the rainbow mushroom effect :D
-
And that +Li is the strawberry ice cream, though I'm not sure if it has any effects on his abilities, though perhaps Li will eat whatever thing when that's added to it.
-
Those aren't cheats, technically. Cheats are features implemented into the game, which give a player an advantage. What you did there, is manipulation of the game data. It is not a feature implemented into the game, it's fooling the game - kinda like hacks.
-
This thread is an abomination! Abomination I say! I could never ruin the fun with such things.
-
Actually, if you'd add +trip to ever item it'd be rather fun. :P
-
Although rather unpractical. I love the trip effect though, just swimming around confusedly and laughing and then going from laughter to pain. How metaphorical of life. 8)
-
Sounds more like the metaphor of drugs. :P
-
I would think more of a similie
-
I would think more of a definition.

Naija's shots are energyblast, energyblast2, energytendril, and energytendril2
Energyblast being the normal shots, and energytendril being the multi shot.
-
Which ones are from the upgraded energy form then?
-
Upgraded energy form?
If you mean a 4 or 6 shot energy blast I think it's energytendril2, but I'm not sure on that one, I'd have to figure that one out.
EDIT: I just noticed that you can also alter the pet blasts, the files are called petblasterfire, petnautilus and petpiranha.
Obviously being for the blaster pet, the nautilus pet and piranha respectively.
And Li's damage is adjustable in the li file.
I'm trying to figure out which one are the dual form shots, I think I found Li's dual form shot, but I can't seem to figure out Naija's shot.
Li's shot is probably the dualshot file, since that links to the right graphic of the shot head, other dualform files link to the normal energyshot graphic. And I think Naija's one is unadjustable, since it's already instant kill as far as I know(apart from the creator?).
-
Upgraded = +spicy soup.
I would imagine the scream being un-adjustable, although I haven't actually looked into the file.
@Glamador, depends on the drug.
-
Then I think it's indeed the energyblast2/energytendril2 since both of them have 1.5 times as much damage as energyblast/energytendril files.
-
What about drinking spicy soup once you're already upgraded?
-
I think spicy soup only works once.. after that you can only use energy power up items I think...

Nah, the scream's merely highly damaging. It can't one-shot Anglerfish or Sea Dragons, among other things. Oh, or that odd, giant creature that swims in Open Waters just outside the entrance to Mithalas. For the last thing I mentioned, it usually takes about two screams to kill it.

This is great, but when I go to edit them and then save, it tells me Access is denied. Any way around that? Is it just the new version? Thanks.

What OS are you on? (Mac/Windows 7/Vista/Xp)
Oh and where do you have your game installed? If it's in program files you'll most likely have to edit the files as Administrator.
-
Windows 7. And yeah it's in Program Files, I just don't know how to edit as Administrator >_<
-
You either open up notepad as administrator (C:/windows/notepad.exe), right click > Run as Administrator. Then File>Open and go all the way to the file location.
Or you turn off that damn protection, but as I'm not sure how on 7 or if you know how to at all I don't see that happening.
Of course, this is when you have those powers. I suggest you don't install your future games in Program Files.
