Title: Who would have thought the whale....
Post by: Sindhi on May 24, 2009, 08:58:20 pm
Who would have thought the whale would be my toughest challenge so far! You can't go all postal and kill the leeches without making those nasty little pink fleas multiply like crazy, and I can't seem to make it around to all four lanterns before the first one goes dark. Is there a trick I am missing?

well is a bit nasty but you will get around that...
you just have to get the right order as fast as you can.

I have a bad, bad mouse and have trouble charging the lamps; when my new mouse comes I can maybe be faster. The leeches slow you down, and having a tadpole doesn't help, but mostly I'm slow because I can't charge the sun form shot easily. Simon gave me only three colors with multiple hits so I could do it; it was the speed, not the multiplicity, that always defeated me. I just hate the pink guys; one of my tries involved so many of them it was like swimming through living quicksand. At least all Simon does to you is turn rosy and look pissy; I can live with that. I was hoping to get the verse egg and get out of there but there's no way, you have to do the lamp game...I've also been saving the Arnassi speed run for my new mouse, and the ice crab/shrimp boss. And I am not looking forward to all the final boss forms in the Body; I'm not really a gamer in that World of Warcraft sense. Dying over and over can be more discouraging than being humiliated by Simon... unfortunately, it's one of my best talents...

oh i see, i made it in my first playthrough without mouse killing everything in that room first and then making the puzzles. I am amaze you made the simon i just made it once and don't want to repit again.
With your new mouse everything will be much much more easier. Again i hope you will do it right.

Hit "R" to roll for a few seconds, this will rid you of the slow leeches (but also of any health leeches you may have) you can then blast them leeches with energy bolts, before they reattach themselves.

Thanks, I knew about the rolling but I just discovered (bad eyes) that each leech has  different colored eyes, although loading up on regen. leeches doesn't keep the fat black ones from sticking.  You know, I don't think the leeches are my biggest problem; it takes me too long to charge the lamps. I press and press on the right-click button, but when I let go, half the time nothing happens. That's why I think the new mouse will help tons. I'll know in a few hours. Thanks for all your help and advice! It sure is easier and more fun when you have people to talk to about it...

They don't have to be lit all at the same time do they? Just in sequence.
At any rate, I suggest clearing out the room before doing anything more in the whale.

Huh? I have the verse egg and found the easter egg (very cute) and the song plant; do you mean get rid of the leeches? Kill the octopus? How do you clear out all those nasty pink things that multiply like a bad virus?... I'm not getting it. I just drove back from Portland and it's 12:30 am so my brain is pretty mushy and dense. Could you please be less subtle?  I may have the lamp sequence wrong; I'll find that thread. I thought you had to light them quickly, and then something was supposed to happen (I forget exactly what, being busy on several fronts). My new mouse didn't show up yet, either.

Yeah, clear out the pink things, beast form is fastest since it can hit several of them at once, though it takes more than one swoop to take them out.
I'm not sure about the lamps, but once the shrimp things (and leeches) are gone you won't have trouble with lag and such, hence my recommendation.

oh in the second room in the whale there is an octopus he give you the order to light the lamp.

this is the order taken from the walkthrough in gamefaqs :
You notice the unlit lanterns hanging around? Hit one with a charged Sun Form
shot, and it'll sing a note. Ahh. You need to hit these lanterns in the order
that thing is singing. Here's the right order:

- The one above the house the octopus is in.
- The one far to the right, inbetween three ruined houses.
- The one to the left of the last one.
- The one to the left of that, below the Chateu de Octopus.

Once you light them all in the right order, you'll hear a chime. Note that if
you don't light them fast enough you'll need to start again.

i don't know if this will help...but you will be sure of the right order.

I quickly skimmed over the topic, so I might have missed something, but I noticed you had trouble charging the sun form, did you know you can also use (and hold) Ctrl to charge up?

Oh wow, that's exactly what I needed, guys! I will try using the control key; the new mouse isn't here yet. You can kill the nasty pink things! Who would have guessed! I shall proceed to clean house immediately (in "real" life, not my favorite activity). Think I'm going to need the health upgrade to nail that lobster/crab/shrimp guy on the ceiling of the bubble cave...Yahoo!

Sheesh, I am the poster child for help. Cleared out the pink nasties, got the pearl, came out to the blue crystal, went into spirit form and promptly couldn't see a thing (my laptop screen is kinda dark anyway); can't find the other crystal and keep snapping back to the first one. Couldn't Scotty just beam her out? Teleportation would be festive. If there's a trick to getting outta there I would love to hear it. Can't believe I finally have the prize and I can't even wend my way over to the frozen veil to cream that crab thing waiting for me with that smug smile on his face...and of course to use the pearl to get... what was that, now? Costume?

Oh, no, it's a memory with the pearl and I don't get those anyway. Oh, well. Hey, still would like any advice you guys have about getting out of there; I'm not real good with the spirit form transporting stuff. I guess I'm not going to get the good ending, having no memories at all after the first Mia sequence at the beginning of the game. Feeling a little like Naija now...

The spirit crystal out of the whale cave is a fair bit up and a little to the right, but if you can't see anything I guess it'll be mostly spamming the spirit flash and hope for luck?

Sometimes I can see it but I snap back to the first crystal every time either before I can reach it or after I get there and right click on it. Dumbo Ice Cream doesn't help the spirit form!

you have to be near the steam and transform in spirit and then yes a bit right and a bit up you nearly can't see it. but is there ...

You don't put Naija over the first blue crystal and transform there? No wonder I keep snapping back before I can reach the second crystal. I'll try it right now; thanks.

Uh, oh. I am again the prizewinning poster child for help.... how do you charge the lamp on the other side of the big post once you get the pearl out of the whale? Or is there some other way to get outta there? Spirit form will not move past the pillar, and there's nothing on the map as an exit other than the way I'm trying to head, and Naija can't charge the lamp from this side. If this is a puzzle, it's a good one...

There should be a lamp on both sides, I believe.

Post by: Sindhi on May 28, 2009, 10:29:32 pm
Uh, no, just on the other side, unless it is somewhere up high or something. The map shows no other exit.

Nevermind. I'm an idiot; I was gliding over the tops of the two steam vents that you can get by in any form and missed the lamp on the earth between them. All fine now. Thank you sooooooo much for your patience; even got part of a memory; a ghost mother rocking a cradle and then text that said Naija found two memories. Don't know what the other one was... Hey, if this Naija in my game  doesn't get her memories back, then maybe Mia doesn't need to mess with her later, huh? I think it's my computer. Bad, bad computer. New mouse is great, though! Thanks again.
