When you enter a certain screen in The Abyss (the one that contains exits to the Sunken City and The Body) a voice clip plays. I was being attacked by Angler fish at the time and the sound of my shots drowned out the first part of what was said; I only heard the "here forever" bit at the end. What was said here?
-
Sorry jsw but the same thing has happened to me each time and so far I have not been able to hear the voice even :(
-
I can answer this because it creeped the hell out of me..... it says
"I will find you, and you will love me..... Forever."
-
Man - I wish I had gone through the Abyss with sound! I went through it muted the first time because the music and darkness scared me at 10:00 :) The second time, I lost my headphones and the speaker driver had problems. Its effects sound similar to the effect the Creator's laugh after he captures Li had on me - I jumped a mile. :)

Haha, Chibi. You should play the Abyss real hardcore. In the middle of night, alone, with the lights out and without using Sunlight form. Getting lost down there is terrifying when you don't have a magical light producing form to get you out.

I can (and want to) only imagine. :D

No way I am moving around there without the lightning squid ;) .

Lightning squid? EDIT: Ah, the Dumbo Octopus
-
You know the pet squid that lights up Chibi lol And no I will also pass on that pleasure because I want to sleep when I go to bed after a game lol
-
Ah, okay. Lol - I once played the Ravenholm level in Half-Life 2 just before going to bed and lay awake for a few hours listening to the creaking of the house when I went to bed. :D
Just so you know, Crokke, it's called the Dumbo Octopus.

Haha. I went down into the Abyss twice without Sunlight form (although I didn't turn my speakers up loud and turn the lights out). It was fun, but scary as hell. Especially when whatever creature was lighting your way gets eaten by something much bigger and then you struggle to move around in the pitch dark. First time I even managed to kill King Jelly, but died before I could make it out again. Second time I made it down to the flower room with all the anglers in and back out again, although I didn't really gain anything for it, it's such a rush when you make it out again.

Oh I have had a small taste of that the first time I tried the abyss, but I only went into the dark a little way so I just reversed to come out of it and seeing the light was wonderful even if I did have to face all those enemies again on my way up :o
-
I went into the dark a little way, then panicked and rushed blindly towards the light. ::) :) Those pink blobs are annoying when trying to fight, but easily ignored if you're just passing through (shield form can deflect every projectile in the game).
P.S. Silver, the last sentence is only for the benefit of the unenlightened. ;)

Oh I just change to beast form and devour them all now, why waste good ammo lol

Very true. ;D

Yeah, I just went through that part in the abyss. So everyone else here is asleep, it's dark, I have my heaadphones on. I did have the sun form, but I was fighting the light fish when that voice came out and it freaked me right out. Last time I've been that freaked out was reading the part in Lord of the Rings about the Barrow Downs late at night (and the Dead Marshes, too). The voices in the Sunken City are pretty scary, too. Horror movies don't scare me the way an involving book or video game can.

Then for the love of god, don't ever read House of Leaves.

don't.

Seriously, that one scene is scarier than the rest of the Abyss put together.
-
I found it scary but my horrors are differen't.. I do not like confined places and I find underground tunnels the scariest, so reading a description of a spelunker crawling through tight tunnels is enough to make my stomache churn even writting this :o

FALSE.
Everyone should read House of Leaves to better understand the nature of fear and reality. Nice post though ;)

Hmm, I think I'll take that as a challenge. I'll have to look it up.
I didn't think I was all that scared of dark, confined spaces until I went spelunking with my dad once (my idea, too). It's not because it's dark that you easily get lost; it's because you have to think in three dimensions, and it's surprisingly easy to forget which way is up. And all of a sudden you realise the place you were trying to get to is too small to crawl through, and you turn to go back and you can't remember whether you took the passage up, left, right, or down. For a moment I thought we'd gotten lost in what seemed like a fairly small cave, and I was so relieved to finally see the light coming from the entrance.
-
Your description of spelunking sounds a lot like House of Leaves actually, hehe. You should definitely check it out, it will probably give some resonance to your experiences in the caves :)

I think that I was pass, my claustrophobia would have me crying in a corner :o
