I was wondering if a arcade/survival minigame would be put in the game, or any minigames? As a unlockable or otherwise ,it would be a nice addition, (though it can also be a hard mode as it is quite common.).
-
I don't understand what do you mean by a arcade mode ???
-
I presume he means some sort of instant action arena separate from the main game and storyline. I don't really see any need, personally.
-
This is the kinda stuff people could make with mods. ^-^
-
Coming soon : online races of Naijas! ^-^
-
what i meant was if there were unlockables such as minigames that take the "pressure" off of you. this is common with most games I've seen.
-
Well, give some examples. You're still not being terribly clear. And besides, in a non-linear, exploratory adventure game, surely how much pressure's on is largely dependent on the player anyway?
If you're trying to describe what I think you are, then Alec is super right, and it's the kind of thing you could probably knock together in about twelve seconds using the editor.

i see what you are talking about now that the seven minutes demo is out. now i see that the game is more like metroid than some of the other games i was comparing it with, a pleasant surprise due to the lack of 2d metroid games coming out :'(.
-
There is still 2D Castlevania games, it looks a lot like Metroid in 2D, juste that you replace Ridley by Death and a few stuffs here and here.

Just out of curiosity, how'd you think this thing was going to play? I mean, Aquaria's been touted as a non-linear, exploratory game from the outset.
-
I think what he means is, say, a survival-type mode or "you have five minutes, kill everything you see" or something that's more action-oriented than exploration. A focused, linear shooter game as opposed to what it is. A Contra game instead of a Metroid game.
Which...is feasible. You can say that we can make something like that with the editor, but...can you imagine playing Castlevania 3 like you would Symphony of the Night? Or, again, Contra with a Metroid control scheme? The game styles are the same, but unless the editor is REALLY deep (so far as changing paths, command responses and attack patterns), it's not possible or at least not as easy as some folks think.
That said...I personally don't think it's necessary. MAYBE, like, say, a Boss Rush mode, but that's about it.
-
Presumably there're hostile creatures that'll just attack on sight, right? I imagine it'd be fairly straightforward to have some aggressive sea-bastards spawning on a timer.
-
You can edit scripts. So if you really wanted to get into it, you could create your own enemy types for a different style of game play.

Usually, creatures only attack when they are hungry or that their lives (or the one of their children) is in danger.
-
Like...um, Nautilus Prime? Or the Sea Dragon? Or that giant statue-looking thing in the first video?
Granted, not everything attacks you, most creatures we've seen try to keep out of your way and go on with their lives. But there's gotta be a few...more territorial beasties in the world.

exactly what i was thinking, though the boss rush mode sounds like it would work(sorta like megaman right).
-
I was actually thinking along the lines of Castlevania. In Megaman, you at least have a break in between fights, you can take it at your own pace. Castlevania, you're timed to get through as quickly as possible, with awesome rewards for completing under certain times. Either one is quite possible, though, not to mention very easy to do with the editor.

Actually I was speaking about real animals XD

Toom wasn't, though.
-
Eyh, but Nautilus Prime IS actually protecting her baby!

The idea of constant attack might work, but the combat system is less geared that way I think. How about a survival system that makes you buy all your spells and foods before the bosses, and then you tough it out till you die? I gotta bring this up again when the mods start coming out.
