Title: Worst Case of Off-Topic Thread Ever Seen on the Forum
Post by: Chibi on January 01, 2009, 07:49:28 am
Today there were 108 guests online; the largest number since December 08, 2007 (129 people online). Looks like the word of Aquaria is out!  :) s

[EDIT] This topic, as Danger Mouse states, has gone completely haywire.

[EDIT]: Changed the topic name. ^_^

Heh, I spread the word about Aquaria every chance I get. :) It's too good to pass up!

It was a queue of spambots trying to log in to spread their word. ;)

Haha!  ;D In light of the number of spam bots recently, you might be right.  :(  :)

Yes, :( all it needs is for game forum to produce a popular game and get into the big league and spammers descend in ther thousands just like vultures or leaches ::) >:(

There hasn't been that many spam bots. This forum has been actually doing really well; and all considering, there's only a couple of people able to rectify the situation. Alec, are you ever going to have people help you on the forums here in the way of moderators? Or do you enjoy devoting time to wiping out those minor infractions here and there?

There are people that serve as moderators - BMCC, Giant Underwater Potato, and Ian are the three, though they all have left the forums; I agree that more should be appointed.

BMCC??  :o

I'd say silverflagon has done quite a lot of support in the gameplay threads. -kudos

Yes, I believe silverflagon is worthy of Global Moderator status. Why are you so surprised that BMCC is a moderator?  :)

Not surprised... never realized.

BMCC (Brandon) was a beta tester and is from TIGS , Ian is Alecs brother and the Giant Underwater Potato is most asurely a double account from Derek ;). It's times like this when I realise how "new" you are to this forum  ;) :D

Haha! I am not only "new" to this forum, I am "new" to forums in general!  ;) Never knew Giant Underwater Potato was Derek, though I knew all the other members' origins.  :P

I wasn't talking about you only, I was talking about the active members besides Alec, Derek and Quemanqa (spelled it right?) who joined a day before me. ;)
That's not something bad of course. :) And you're doing quite well Chibi, I knew others who came new to forums who well... left quite an impression. Your little grave digging can't compete with that. :D

"new" - I'm assuming your are talking to Chibi and not me since you did quote him. But I've been gone on 3 deployments since Aquaria first started... so there's a lot of stuff here and there that I have missed. :P

I didn't know Giant Underwater Potato even existed.. lol my poor ignorance! *shrug* And I'm certainly not new and didn't know that... I did know however that Ian is Alec's brother.. and as far as BMCC I didn't correlate the Beta Tester with the account that I vaguely remember.

Xiagan - True, but it was amusing and a bit funny how Chibi didn't even realize that he was grave digging. :P

Why ... thanks Xiagan. Should I be saying thanks? Lol.  :)

[EDIT] Alright DM.  ;)

Amusing doesn't mean funny Chibi.. if you would like a definition I could dig it up for ya, or you could search for it for yourself. : )

It just means: giving amusement. And amusement means:

1  : a means of amusing or entertaining <what are her favorite amusements>
2  : the condition of being amused <could not hide his amusement>
  3  : pleasurable diversion : entertainment <plays the piano for amusement>

Can we change this topic to record number of posts? Because I have the feeling, that today more posts are made than on every other day before. ;) Silver will get a heart attack if she sees what she missed. ;)

(Yep, 151 new posts today while 25 is average)

HAHA Xiagan, that's because I'm bored and I'm at work for duty on a weekend with nothing to do! Besides I love to read all the responses that silver has.. who knows... maybe she'll make it to 2000 before Alec does. LOL

Enough "spamming" for me, am off to bed now (after midnight over here). Cya! :)

Too? It's long built! Check out our post count-ratio! ;) I nearly always was second after Alec, once Alphasoldier moved in front of me and now Silver is there. :)

over the past couple of months I've been doing more scrolling through threads. not to hate on the chatter, but you guys know there is an irc room ( or was? )  there's been a weird cloud of counting posts for awhile, I've commented on that before, and there's daily cascades of chitchat between a few people and then congrats on how high we've gotten our post count.  I like this forum a lot, but this sort of stuff detracts from the good vibe and is kind of repellent rather than attractive.

My thoughts exactly - okay ... end of thread! I'm locking it after the next five replies, or after two days of no replies.

Never mind - seems as if the thread still has some life.  :)

I too have to admit that it is kind of annoying to find 2 pages of unread posts...

And I highly recommend the IRC-Channel! It's a bit silent in there (since Alphasoldier went away ;)). Anyways, it's #bitblot on irc.esper.net and if you don't want to install an IRC-Software (mIRC, XChat, ...) you can use the firefox-addon chatzilla or the java-based in-browser application here: http://de.gogloom.com/EsperNet/bitblot/
Title: Re: Record Number of Guests / Number of Posts

First of all I'd like to say that it is unfair to restrict people to chatter on irc, since I can't use IRC at work. Government computers, ports banned for security reasons. Next of all, this is what the threads are here for, our enjoyment and comments on the game.. it hasn't gotten out of hand, no body is posting for the sake of just increasing post count. It's not wrong to comment on the number of posts, hence the topic of the thread.

I'd like to see Alec's point of view on this. Everyone has the write and freedom of speech.. and it hasn't been anything against the rules of the forums. I say let people post, and quite complaining. If you don't want to join the discussions, you don't have to, there's other threads. And it IS exceptable for a threads topic to change and drift from one to another as long as it gets back on point.

So there's my opinion on this subject. I see no reason that you should need to lock the thread Chibi.

I was only going to lock it if the thread continued on the same topic - looks like that hasn't happened, so I won't be locking the thread.  :)

Chibi, when are you going to learn, when I am offended I am not lost for words..... And yes there are better subjects to talk about, really the post count is ok being mentioned but it's no reason to keep a thread running too long, honest it's not important to me at all. But I am honoured that you would even think that I deserved being made into a mod, but I think that Alec and Derek prefer things as they are and I can only be here for an hour a day and sometime less than that. I do have my work to do and I have three other forums to visit includng my own art caffee forum. :)

it has nothing to do with the volume of chatter or wanting to restrict it. it's the pingpong of posts, commending on post counts and suggesting that warrants modhood or something even that leaves a sour ting. if there even was a cause for someone being mod it should be on seniority and participation, and no, I'm not at all suggesting myself. I'm one pitchfork prong shy of devil's advocate turning troll and havn't the character for that sort of role.  even if no one is intentionally keeping track of this and that for whatever reason, it comes across that way. this isn't about tos, it's about netiquette.

Honestly, I just think this topic went all hay-wire and childish. I voiced my opinion.. which hasn't changed, but thanks for your point of view inkblob. Point taken. I don't agree, but at least you did voice your opinion well.

It's understook Inkblob, but this kind of thread is always going to happen when someone reaches an high post count worse luck.
