Can you send me your debug.log? You could be able to find it in the "common" sub folder of your steam program files. Please email it as an attachment to zaphire@gmail.com

Thanks!

Have you tried playing around with your graphics card settings at all?

You could try changing texture quality, making sure antialiasing is off, forcing vsync on, etc.

Also there's going to be an update dropping soon that might alleviate part of the problem. :)

i've done almost everything in my power and knowledge to get the game working.  i've even defaulted my catalyst control center to default graphic settings, i've even tuned down all options to "none" on anti alias, and anitriscopic and such. vsync on/off. i found out that when i loaded Aquaria, it causes my cpu usage to go up 50% at all times if the game is loaded (no matter the graphic settings, it always uses up 50% of my cpu), but will not go past the blit blot logo without crashing.

I'm confused as to why the game is crashing, unless the install from steam messed up and you didn't get all the content (you could try deleting local content and redownloading) or if there's some very rare driver-hardware combination messing it up.

I'm not seeing anything in the debug.log that indicates why the game would crash. In fact, it seems that the last thing that happened was that you alt-tabbed out of the program?

i only alt tabbed to close it with task manager, i deleted content and redownloaded and still not working, i'm having the same problem as that other guy that gave the screenshots of the 60hz television displaytype pictures. i cant figure out what's wrong, i can play every other game out there. but not this one.

I'm going to try to get a patch up today, we'll see if it helps this problem. :)

that would be great, and by the way i looked into the debug log also, near the end i have bout  5lines that read "precaching such and such" then below it some would say "loaded texture from disk" but some like "gfx/healthbar, gfx/bar, and gfx/shock-hit", were "missing" etc etc. is that normal?

I am also having the same problems as many others.  The game gets to the start menu and then if I try to click on one of the buttons, or if I leave it alone for a few seconds, the screen freezes, then it exits out and windows says that there is a problem with the program.

Here are my particulars:

*Homemade PC
*Intel Core Duo 3.0 ghz
*ATI Radeon HD 4850
*2 Gb Ram
*Windows Vista Premium
*Downloaded off of Steam

I hope you can help me fix this problem.

Sound like ATI cards are the common link.

What version of catalyst do you guys have?

Just thought I'd let you know, I have an ATI graphics card and my Aquaria works just fine with the new patch.
My catalyst control center version is 8.9, and I have a Radeon X1300/X1550 series card according to the control center.

Just letting you know that not all ATI cards break with this game. ;)

Mine is Version 8.7

What happens if you update to the latest version?

I have updated Catalyst to 8.12 and Steam has updated the game to 1.1.2.

One of those must have fixed it because it seems to running fine now.

Thanks for the help Alec.

i would update the catalyst, but my laptop does not support it. i've downloaded new drivers and catalyst from the manufacturer, but it doesnt help.  i semi-figured out what's wrong.  i recently downloaded an opengl game "precipice of darkness episode 1" and it does not work either, it says missing extensions:yada yada. and the list is about 10 items.  i've read on forums for the last two days and many people have the same problem with ati cards and drivers. i downloaded an opengl demo program to test, but the benchmarks dont open because the error tells me i'm missing open gl extension, which is awkward because ati and nvidia supposedly supports both graphic types, d3d and opengl.  i cant figure out what's wrong, and many people cant either.

So ATI/ATI laptop drivers are a problem... hmm... have you checked the info in this thread yet?

Apologies if you've already seen it.

http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=316.msg3778#msg3778

Apologies if you've already seen it.

figured it out took me 3 damn days but i figured it out :)  ATI VIDEO CARDS ONLY, MOSTLY MOBILITY RADEONS.

OK everyone who's having this problem on ati cards please follow these directions.  First beforemost u must backup your computer just in case :) now to the boring part.  Check your catalyst control to check your software versions.  Information center->graphics software and read your OPEN GL version.  for some reason manufacturers for laptops are lazy and do not update their drivers much. hence the failness and everyone's woes come to life.  on my software it was reading OPEN GL not available.  Hence i could not play any OPENGL GAMES, aka Aquaria and many 2D Apps like second life.
If it reads not available then your manufacturer is greedy. ONLY TESTED ON LAPTOP WITH MOBILITY RADEON X1600
how to fix it  you ask? 1: download catalyst 8.12 from ati.com in driver section, dont bother going into mobility section they just tell you to check with ur manufacturer.  just go to your windows version and find your card.  if its mobility just select radeon and your model number. download the suite and install it.  when you install it on a laptop it wont show up the drivers or catalyst control center.  just install the manager using custom dont install any advertised crap.  default folder will be in your c:\ati\support\x-xxvista or xp, or whatever folder is named from the version you installed.  remember this well, you will need it to install the driver and catalyst control center later on. even though you have unzipped it into your support folder, opening it and clicking on it will not let u install the CCC OR DRIVER, IT WILL NOT GIVE YOU THE OPTION TO IN THE MANAGER FOR SOME REASON(CAPS FOR WARNINGS)
Now we must modify your folder with the program from driver heaven, as stated above by Alec.
go to the site and download the file, before installing it you must follow the directions for turning off UAC.
now we modify the ati folder for installation.
first open the mod tool and browse c:\ati\support\x-xxvista to find your file location, and hit modify. takes bout 30 seconds to a minute. once that's done you must open c:\ati\support\x-xxvista and find the setup icon, double click and install :)  when done reboot your computer and go to catalyst and check your open gl version and it should be 6.14, way beyond 2.0 for most games and such that requires it.  everyone can be happy now. and btw, <3 AQUARIA!!!

One more thing.  I usually use correct grammar and punctuation, but I was too excited after fixing my problem.  I had to tell everyone as fast as I could, even if that means bad english.  Forgive me for the unorginized manner of my post above.

Haha, that's a crazy fix.

last entry for this solved thread :)        i noticed that sprites in some games, like Aquaria, have miniscule horizontal lines going through it, it's minimal but i can see it if i pay attention. the maps and world itself doesnt have that problem, only enemies, naija herself, that grimreaper and other sprite tend to tear, but again, i'm not complaining becaues i got it working!
edit: additon, must be opengl driver issues, but again, the game works and i'm running at high frame rate which is really good considering i was only at 1 fps prior to fix.

1.1.2 should fix the tearing.

Not sure when Vavle is going to update though.

You can check what version you have in the title screen. (in the lower left corner)
