Im preety sure this has been thought of before, but i had an idea and i wanted to share it, because i doubt i could pull off this mod.
This would be played like aquaria, but with sea creatures instead of Najia. I was thinking the default form would be the jellyfish, and you could use songs to transform into different creatures, like energy form would be that flying thing that lauches energy, other forms might include a leafy sea dragon, a large nautilus, or a pirahna. Custom bosses would be giant, more power versions of each avalible form in order to aquire each form. Tell me what you think.
-
Very neat idea, though the damage each form dealt would have to be ramped up a lot. What would the enemies be? Any story ideas? It sounds like a great idea for a mod, though Danger Mouse is already on a project. :D Please continue, modder. lol ;)
-
Thanks! Hm, story, how bout this...
You are a guardian, sent into the waters of Aquaria as a peacekeeper, but you have to keep yourself incognito, so you turn into the form of a Song Jelly. Lately, some larger creatures have been wrecking havoc, you discover a new power when you eliminate one of these large beasts, you can copy its Verse code and transform into one of its offsprings, giving you new powers and abilities! As you venture deeper into Aquaria, you find that an evil force has been compelling these creatures to cause chaos! Will you be able to fight this force and restore peace to Aquaria?
Ill post some MS paint sketches of a few bosses over the weekend. Ill start working on a script too. thanks again!
-
this is one of the coolest ideas *ever*
-
Great! It's wonderful to see the world of Aquaria reinvented ;) I especially like the undercover agent of peace part. ;D
-
Wow, this really is a cool sounding idea. ^-^
Only issue I can see is that it wouldn't be easy to make, since you'd need to redo the bones for Naija to make her look and act like a monster would.. I don't know exactly how all that stuff works though. O0
Try out my Big Energy Form Battle mod, it might give you some ideas for stuff... xD (plus the more people that try it the better)
And actually, if you want a mod that has all the resources that are easily available, its a good place to get it.
-
Thanks guys! Yea, this would be a preety daring feat to make this idea a reality, but if anyone would create this, i would be happy to take some time to edit the animations!
Heres a quick sketch of the would be first boss, Omega Nautilus:
How you would beat him: The yellow pipe on his shell plays a note and emits a certain color, if you match the note with your song, he moves forward a bit, he lashes his tentacles as an attack, eventually, you lure his far enough, and he falls into a chasm, and his falling body destroys a rock wall, opening an exit, when you swim out a cutscene begins:
Guardian: As I swim near the fallen behemoth, I feel a strange force engulf me, and i hear the beasts voice in my mind. (even though jellyfish dont have brains)
Omega: You are stong, small one, and you have freed me from the binds of evil, for that, i will give you something in return. now, i must die...
Guardian: I thanked the creature as its voice faded, but i felt a spark inside me, something new, but at the same time, i wondered what it meant be binds of evil. I now felt a piece of the creature inside me, I could now change guises into a Nautilus.
-
That is a great idea and I do like the idea of his falling body breaking open a wall to another area :D
-
Thanks! :D
-
Keep the pictures coming! I'm liking this more and more. ;D My first impression of Omega Nautilus was of NP wearing a Spartan helmet, lol.
-
Okay! Your wish is my command! But im on a intel based Mac with Windows, and photoshop is on the mac side, so ill post some pics tomarrow, and maybe a pencil scetch of Omega. If this dosent become a mod, ill make a namfiction of it :D
-
Yeah, I was just messing with you: in other words, feel no need to hurry. ;D
-
Lol, time for some more stuff!
Third Boss: Ivy Dragon
(http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm318/Seth1265/AqariaCreaturesSeahorseandSanguine.jpg)
Boss Death Cutscene:
[Ivy falls to the ground, opening a previously blocked exit]
Ivy: Guardian... he has mutated body... my soul... my mind...
Guardian: Goodbye my friend, can i do anything for you after you part from this world?
Ivy: Defeat the man behind all this, Sanguine, ruler of blood.
Guardian: It shall be done.
Ivy: Thank you, little one, now i must leave.
Guardian: goodbye, my friend.
[Ivy dies]
[Flash of light]
[Guardian gains seahorse transformation]
In the top left is the top-half of Sanguine. Heres some info.
Sanguine is the forgotten and exiled first born, and son of Mia, after his mother framed him for a horrible crime he was banished to the deepest reaches of Aquaria, below the abyss, there, he found an evil spirit that taught him powers. When the spirit tried to take him over, he destroyed it with his power, and took all of its powers. this power drove him mad and he mutated the creatures of aquaria to become his evil puppets. he is he main villan and reocurring boss in the story.

I love the picture of Naija, although you might want to change the dialogue so it isn't too much of a copy of the conversation Naija has with Mithala. Good job otherwise.
-
Lol, yea, I tried, but i killed mithala today and Im trying to get the conversation out of my head.
Funny, im a bit squamish, but from all the scarier places in the game, Mithalia has been the least scary.
And its not Najia, its Sanguine.
-
Oh ok. I see white hair and fins and think That's Naija :)
-
I just edited the cutscene. And yea, same parent, i guess.
-
Great. Keep up the wonderful work. :)
-
Thanks! Any suggestions?
-
Please take no offense, but you definitely should outsource the artwork. It could have a great story and gameplay, but art like that would ruin the experience. (I'm not suggesting that you were actually thinking of using that artwork for the game) ;) Other than that, makes sure you add a lot of variety to the bosses: make sure that you can't win just by spamming them (as in the giant worm boss)
-
K thanks, as for the art, I wasnt planning on using that in the fininished product, (if there is gonna be one), whin im going to do is this process, hand-draw bone each bone, scan the drawings, ink and color in photoshop, put the bones on one document, each bone on a different layer, and send the final product to whoever is modding, so that way, the bones can be edited separately, but the modder knows what he finished deign will look like.
As for the spamming, Im trying to come up with creative and different ways to interact and damage each boss, a good example of that for me would be the Arnassi Crab. I was thiking fo the Ivy Dragon, if you spammed it enough, then it would shoot 3 energy balls at you, each one would be a different color, and you would have to repeat the sequence todo major damage.
-
Very nice idea, but make sure that they cause major damage to you if they hit and make them extremely hard to dodge. That would encourage other methods (like pulling down a cliff face onto the monster using bind) *nudge, nudge* :D
-
Ok, since sanguine is a re-occouring boss int the game, that shuldnt be a problem, but you dont fight sanguine himself til the very end, because he transforms into different (Kinda hideous) creatures, ill post the first MS Paint sketch (the ones that dont look cool) this afternoon.
-
Here is the Veryveryveryveryveryveryvery poorly drawn first form of sanguine, i will post a script once i get a hand drawn one up.
-
Okay, heres a hand drawn for ya
(http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm318/Seth1265/NautilisAlphaDrawingRGB.jpg)
What do you think?
-
Pretty goood: I pronounce it game-worthy. It's a definite improvement over the beta. ;) Good job, man.
-
Thanks!
The final product is actually gonna be better than this, its just, i dont have anyone to mod this yet.
-
Great, I can't wait to see it. BTW, if the choice is between good gameplay or good story, go with gameplay. ;)
-
I like the idea and as a basic drawing these are good but you need to give them shading to give them more body and smooth those edges out a bit more. I would offer but at the moment I am not using my mouse for drawing and I perhaps never will again :(
I am suposed to be working on a design for DM but I am resting this rsi so it looks like I will have to finish it in solid media :(
-
Chimera's going to polish it up a bit:
Thanks!

I think it'll look great once it's finished.
-
Thanks!
About the rough edges, im using photoshop, which is a raster based program, so its pixalated, sorry about that.
-
I've never had any problem with pixelation on Photoshop CS2: are you using an earlier version or a slow computer?
-
Elements Cs3 on a
very EXTREMELY fast computer with a very high graphics card actually. I wish i had illustrator.
-
You should do the upgrade to CS4 Extended, a lot of nice improvements! :) Me and my wife both made the upgrade.
-
Thanks!

I use Photoshop also, my avatar painting was created in PS so it is possible, But it is time consuming work so if you do decide to work slowly on it smoothing the edges, do remember to take time to rest your hands and flex them and rest your eyes also
Here is a tutorial on how to paint hair using PS, not only is it useful for painting the subject but it also shows you how to use it for 'painting' I mean painting by the use of the tool. :D

Thanks for the cool link, nice to see the hair process step by step.
-
I'm pleased that it's useful for you also DM, I have a few links like that if anyone wants them, just ask if you do :)
-
Thanks! I just got back from a 3 day vacation. so thanks for the info.
