My first sighting of Aquaria was through a 250px × 188px image in WIRED magazine (a great magazine, by the way), stating,

Aquaria
In this 2-D adventure game from two-man dev team Bit Blot, players control a sea nymph plumbing the depths with seamless strokes of her fins, discovering new powers, and solving puzzles. With its high production values and intuitive controls, Aquaria took the grand prize at this year's independent Games Festival. It's easy to see why.

I was immediately floored by the artistry of Nautilus Prime, and downloaded the demo as soon as I could lay hands on my computer. (Sorry Alec, but screenshots don't show programming code ;) )
How about you guys?

I was browsing some independent games awards online from a previous year and there was mention of a new ambitious game in works from Alec and Derek Yu. I had no pictures to go on since there were none at the time, but there was a lot of really interesting ideas discussed about the game. So I had about a year to look forward to this game coming out before it ever did. I didn't make posts on bit-blot back in those days, I just steadily watched out for it's development and progress. I definitely was very anxious to see it come to a complete playable version though, and once it came and I bought it, I was more than satisfied with the game itself. The more I dove into trying to create a mod for it though, the more I saw the potential for this gem of a game and am still waiting for some much needed mod improvements. But that being said, I still absolutely love this game, and for me, it stays right up there in the best of games ever, along with The Legend of Zelda.

Kotaku and Joystiq had some news articles which featured Aquaria. I noticed it way back when they reported it had won that independent games award then I sort of forgot about it. Then those same sites posted that there was a demo and I'll try ANYTHING that's put in front of me (game-wise). I loved it and bought it before I was even out of the home waters.

I always search for good games and spotted a screenshot and description of it in Jay Is Games, they always come up with some great games there and this one was no exception :D in fact it's by far the best they have introduced me to :D
