sorry for dumb question but what's that thing for?

How long have you been playing Aquaria? If you haven't been in Kelp Forest yet and have beaten the boss there, you won't need to know yet. ;)

Straight Answer:

It's a teleport tube thing, it only connects between 2 points and can be opened by using a normal flower in Nature form, which is found in Kelp Forest as said by Aerendyll.
