The PAX 10 is a showcase of independent games to be exhibited at the Penny Arcade Expo. Taking submissions until May 7th, our group of 50 industry experts will cull the selection of games into what they collectively feel are the ten best in regard to gameplay and overall fun-factor.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU MAKE IT INTO THE PAX 10
A. Announcement on Penny Arcade as being selected for The PAX 10!
B. Announcement on the Penny Arcade Expo site as being selected for The PAX 10!
C. Four Exhibitor Hall Badges for PAX 2008, giving you access to everything exhibitors receive.
D. A kiosk in the PAX Exhibition Hall for you and your team to demo your game to tens and thousands of gamers, media and industry-folk. This kiosk will include a monitor and speakers however will not include any additional hardware for your demo to play on.
E. The chance to win The PAX 10 Audience Choice Award, to be announced on Penny Arcade following PAX.

I'm not sure... I have a feeling the Penny Arcade guys aren't really into the game.
-
Who cares? Submit it anyway!
-
Maybe, but it's their group of "50 industry experts" who decide which 10 games make the cut, not Gabe and Tycho.
-
Well you can always try, right?
-
I think Derek should decide... :)
-
Jerry has been on a big indie kick recently so assuming he hasn't tried the game yet now is the time to put it in front of him.
-
I'm pretty sure he's played it. He was an IGF judge the year we were entered, which means he should have played it at least once in the finals. I assume if he played it and liked it, he would have mentioned it at some point.
We also recently submitted Aquaria for review to PA to see if we could get some ad space. We haven't heard anything back in over a month. (although the contact in that instance is "Mike F")

For some reason I wouldn't be surprised if PA didn't find it to be their cup o' tea. The indie games Tycho has posted about on his front page are usually strategy/tactical/scifi games. He also likes World of Goo and Bridge Builder... physics-based building games. On the mainstream console side, they seem to like RPG's and big blockbuster actioney stuff (Gears, Assassin's Creed, etc.). Don't want to pidgeonhole them, but that's just what I've casually observed.
But, as you guys pointed out, they're just 2 out of 50 people judging, and most people seem to really enjoy the game, so I think we'd have a fair chance.
The real reason why I might choose not to enter is because we won the Seumas last year and our game is out and selling. And there are a lot of great games that haven't won anything and need to get the kind of attention we've already gotten to be successful. :)
(Not that I think we'd necessarily win if we entered. I think it'd be really fierce competition. But you see what I'm saying, I hope!)
-
We could use a lot more publicity though. Seems strange that a lot of venues completely ignore the game, while lavishing other indie games with heapings of praise and attention. I guess a lot of people don't like the game, so its not that unexpected.

If something is able to create strong emotions, it is always to both sides. And because a lot of people really love it, there must be others who don't like it at all...
-
I tried to get my friend to play it, had him try it out on my computer, but once he got through about the length of the demo he just stopped. He didn't hate it, but he didn't like it either. I've tried to get him to play some more, but it just doesn't spark.
-
Alot of people are just like this "Ohmygawd is that a gurl?!", "Whar are teh headshots?" and "Too peacefull, Boring!", and they stop, I even knew someone who stopped playing Metroid games when he found out THROUGH SUPER SMASH BROTHERS that Samus was a she, kind of pathetic imhp. But like you guys said, there are these kinds of people just don't like it.
-
Whoa...that's bigotry on a whole other level.
-
hahaha @ Alphasoldier
Well, this is the kind of situation where you can look at it in as "glass half-empty" or "glass half-full." Seems strange in our position to dwell on the people who don't like or don't "get" the game, whatever the case may be. O0

I don't know, it seems to make a lot of sense to me to wonder why people might not like the game.
Its more interesting/positive to hear and think about it than just ignoring it, imo.
