Title: Bubble cave help and questions
Post by: Unna on February 24, 2008, 05:04:16 am
I just can't beat the stupid lobster,I've been 3 days stuck in there already. I know what to do but the bombs explode before I can bind any, and Naija is not helping with her crazy bubble-jumping when I don't want her to move. And if I'm lucky and I can make him fall into the bubble with a bomb near (it happened only once because I can't do it fast enough) he rapidly turns to his place and I die before I can even eat something.
The thing is that I believe this is an optional boss or something like that, right? Then I'd like to skip it right away, but a friend of mine said that there's a valuable finding after killing him that could come in handy with the rest of the battles.
So I would like to know if there's an alternative way to beat this boss, if what I could miss is really that important, or if I can get it any other way.
Thanks and excuse my english, is not my language and I don't practice enough.

That's pretty much the gist of it.  You have to knock him down and subsequently bomb him.  The trick is, bind the bomb THEN knock him down.  Then use keyboard shortcuts to ket go of the bomb if you want to.  But frankly, you can survive a few hits from them.  As for the prize you get, yes you will want it.  But it's not necessary.  Just a health egg.

On the left side below of him is a bubble with some tadpoles in it. If you sing to them, they stick to you and regenerate you permanently. That may help you staying alive. ;)

btw, how much health do you have if you die always before you can eat something (=so fast that you aren't able to press esc).

I already use shortcuts, and I tried different strategies but nothing works for me.
If I bind a bomb first and change with shorcut to plant form, when I'm shooting a seed to make him fall the bomb explodes on me before he is in the bubble. And if I make him fall first when I can bind a bomb he turns back to his place.
And in that one occasion that there where a couple of bombs around him , it made him no damage and he jumped back to his place while I instantly died.
Has anyone been able to beat the game without this health egg?

Sure you can, if you have the other health eggs...

I recommend nevertheless you try again, because it'll help you later on, if you get better with the controls....

SPOILERS!

basically order of operation for the lobster guy is:

bind bomb,
switch to nature form,
charge seed above him,
swim around him until bomb explodes,
switch out of nature form,
repeat,
repeat,
dance,
chow down on some hearty sea loaf!

My OoO was slightly different:
Bind bomb
Go nature
Spike the boss
Frantically tap 'X' (switch out of nature form)
Put up a shield
Hang out near boss
Laugh
Repeat
Repeat

Boss:      Hyper Lobster
Location:   Bubble Caves
Attacks:   Explosives - The Lobster launches several of these slow moving explosive
devices at you from his perch on the ceiling. When they come into contact
with you or a wall they explode and release a circle of small yellow energy bolts.
Hints:      He looks pretty comfy on his bit of land there. If only there was some way of
      turning nature against him?
Those bombs look nasty. Much more damaging than anything you can fire at him!
Guide:      Pretty easy when you know how, but you'll probably still take a bunch
      of damage, so come prepared.
Begin by binding one of his bombs as he fires them at you. It'll trail behind
you and slowly get redder until it explodes! Before that happens, quickly
      switch to nature form.
Fire a seed spike thing (right-click charge) at his position and it'll knock
him off his perch into the bubble you are in. Get out of the way! Once he's
stuck there, either swim around him in circles until the bomb explodes (if you
are far enough away you can easily dodge the bolts) or if you have time, switch
to normal form and unbind the bomb. Either way, if it explodes near him it
      damages him.
Once this is done, he'll shreik out and jump to the ceiling again. Simply repeat
this twice more to get your (hopefully) final health upgrade!
Rewards:   Health Egg.

Thanks for your help but I still think there's no way I can do this. After all I've been 3 days stuck here trying everything and failing miserably. I don't know how you all can go that fast to bind, swim, charge, shoot etc. in my laptop I just can't.
I think this game is too difficult sometimes (jumping sun temple walls, getting rukh egg...) but now it's just impossible, really not fun anymore. Too much for a casual gamer I guess.
I'll try one last time because I see I won't make it without all the eggs, but if I fail again I'll just skip it.

You can hit 4 to switch forms to nature form, or hit 0 for bind. 1 turns you back to normal

You don't NEED the health egg to beat the game, but its sure useful

If I had a save ANYWHERE near him I would screw all this controversy once and for all and just make a damned video.  Does anybody have a save file anywhere near this boss?  Better yet!  YOU!  Person who can't beat it!  Just give me your save file so I can make a video.

I know that 4 is nature form and 1 normal, I've  already done that, and I know the different strategies to kill him, I just can't go fast enough, and is too difficult to control Naija for me.
I could give you my save file but I'm not sure which one, if its saved in "slot 2" should I give you "save-0001" or "save-0002", knowing that there's also "save-0000"? Even though you show me what to do I still think I couldn't.

Well, he can show you AND give you the save-file from after the boss if you want, I think...

Just upload the batch.  It's not like save files are huge.

There you go.  One video of how to beat him.  You'll notice, I don't leave it up to chance whether or not the bombs explode in time.  I JUST RUN SMACK INTO THEM!  If you make sure to get those helpful little tadpoles to the lower-left of the boss room, you'll survive the 3 hits it takes to beat him.  Sorry I only got 2 hits on tape, Fraps only let's you record 30 seconds at a time.

Do you understand how to beat him now?  Shield (for precaution's sake), Bind, Change, Charge, Shoot, Change back, un-bind, RUN INTO BOMB, repeat.  Hope this helps.

You really don't have to be so quick dude, the bombs take a decent amount of time to go off. The only reason I can think of this being hard speed-wise is if you're using the touch pad, in which case this whole game is gonna be a mission to complete.
Do you use WASD to move? That might help...

Were you talking to me about being quick?  I already said I was trying unusually hard to be speedy because Fraps trial-version would only let me record 30 seconds at a time.

great video Glam  :)  think it's important to note a few things that help terribly in this video for beating the crab boss.

I havn't retried this boss yet, and will keep in mind the keyboard shortcuts this time round for him. I try to avoid using them wherever possible but some cases it's warranted, especially if you've tried a few times and it's just not working.

Thanks for the video. I tried to do that before but I couldn't go as fast  as you.Is not that easy for me, and yes I'm on a laptop and using a touchpad, which makes it pretty difficult to control Naija specially when jumping, in fact I was trying before to play the Bubble cave again and I just gave up because all I've been doing in almost 30 min. is trying to reach the upper bubble, always falling or jumping incontrolably and I got really frustrated.  I've used WASD too, but only when there's a little less "tension" and I can take my time, besides I can't find a way to jump with it. And I noticed in the video that after transforming to plant you just shot rapidly at him, but my problem was that I have to wait like 5-6 seconds for it to charge and then shot. Oh and what is the binding shortcut? I didn't find this one or maybe is not working.

You use a touchpad? Than I appreciate how far you got...that must be aweful...
Binding shortcut is 9 or 0, I always mix it up with shield...

Shield is 9, bind is 0.  Which is useful b/c it's always nice to shield up before running into the bomb.  It stops some of the blast from reaching you.  As for waiting 5-6 seconds that's just plain not true.  As you can see in my 30 second vid  I charged up in about 2 seconds.  It really doesn't take that long.  But if you're really having trouble I'd be glad to beat the boss and just send you back your save files.  I can understand how hard it is to use the touchpad.

P.S.  Use the spacebar to Jump/Dash when using WASD.  Since you're using the keyboard already, you should try doing the boss with WASD and the strategy in my video.  It's not as bad as you think.

Well it does takes that long in my game, I counted the seconds, at least with the cactus thing just exactly as when in energy form, although I use the ctrl. key to shoot because I'm very uncomfortable with  right clicking with the touchpad . And I guess that the binding shortcut didn't work because maybe I wasn't close enough to the objects.
I use the spacebar to dash but I couldn't make her jump,  maybe I didn't tried enough.
I'll do the whole thing again with touchpad and if I fail with the keyboard only and if I'm really tired and I can't make it at least I know I can skip it (even though I'd really like the health egg).
Thank you all for your help.

Biggest tip I could give you is USE A MOUSE. :D

This game runs pretty much with the mouse and the keyboard ain't as handy.

Playing with a touch-pad must be a real handicap though. Good job on getting so far.

I'm actually amazed you beat the Sun Temple Worm with that thing.  That's a boss that's heavy on precision dodging.  Did you raid your fridge to conquer him?

Anyone tried Nature form? I just finished that boss. Took just a couple of minutes ;)

I went from Mithalas to Sun Temple, I didn't have Nature.
